MILWAUKEE – Executives from Mid-West Energy Research Consortium were on hand Thursday for the groundbreaking event at Century City, a Milwaukee redevelopment project on the eastern portion of the former A.O. Smith and Tower Automotive site south of Capitol Drive at North 31st Str

The groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday took place just south of M-WERC’s corporate headquarters on 27th street, which includes nearly 70,000 square feet of the former Eaton research campus.

“Its great to be a part of the solution to creating jobs and redevelop this part of our city,” said M-WERC Executive Director and CEO Alan Perlstein. “At M-WERC we’re excited to see this kind of progress and look forward to continuing to support the team at General Capital.”

M-WERC was founded in 2009 by three universities and four industrial companies to focus on conducting collaborative and transformative energy-related seed research. It has grown to more than 75 members with an annual budget of more than $1 million.

Today M-WERC is dedicated to making the Midwest region the leader in energy, power and controls. It has five core mission areas: technology innovation; market and industry expansion; public policy support; workforce development; and organization development and strategic collaboration.
